This is an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report for the proposed
construction of 310 hectares of Nkhulambe-Wowo Irrigation Scheme located in
Traditional Authority Nkhulambe in Phalombe District. Nkhulambe-Wowo
irrigation scheme is under Blantyre Irrigation Services Division (ISD) and will be
implemented by the Department of Irrigation (DoI) in the Ministry of Agriculture.
This irrigation project will be implemented under the Programme for Rural
Irrigation Development (PRIDE) and Enhancing the Resilience of Agro-ecological
Systems Project (ERASP) with financial support from the International Fund for
Agriculture Development (IFAD) and Global Environment Facility (GEF),
respectively. The project cost is estimated at 2,300,000 United States (US)
Dollars.
